Site 24: Cape Flattery Dam

Site History and Background

Cape Flattery Dam
Cape Flattery Dam
(Ridolfi, 2005e)

This area consists of a large concrete dam and a reservoir formed by damming Flattery Creek.  These structures are now abandoned.  The dam is believed to have been built on Flattery Creek when the Cape Flattery Battery installations were constructed to provide a source of water for the concrete.  The dam impacts the natural hydrology and constitutes a sediment trap.

Activities to Date

The Makah Environmental Restoration Team performed site inspections in March and April 2004.  Location coordinates for the dam were determined with a GPS unit.

Planned Activities

The Tribe considers this site a lower priority (Priority C). The following activities are planned for 2006 to 2010:

  • Continue discussions with Makah Fisheries to plan dam removal activities.
  • Remove the dam.

Dam Removal: The Makah Environmental Restoration Team will meet with Makah Fisheries to develop plans for removing the dam and restoring the natural hydrology of the site.
